Turn it around.
Pick the fabric. Get the price.

Photographing 120 products in twelve finishes was never going to happen. We modelled the forty best sellers, built a browser configurator with live pricing and an AR view, and connected it to the quote system.

Status
Illustrative

This is a composite scenario built from how we deliver this kind of work. The client is fictional and the figures are targets, not measured results. We will replace it with a named engagement when a client agrees to be quoted.

The client

A furniture manufacturer with a Dhaka showroom and export orders, about 120 products in a dozen fabrics and finishes each

The problem
  1. Customers asked to see a sofa in a different fabric, and sales reps answered with swatch books and a catalogue photographed in one colour. A full photo shoot of every product in every finish was quoted at more than the website itself.
  2. The existing site loaded slowly on phones, and quotes started with a phone call and a rep retyping the options.
Approach

How we approached it.

  1. Forty hero products first

We scanned and modelled the forty best sellers instead of all 120, because they carried most of the quotes.

  2. Models built to a budget

Each glTF model was compressed for the web with a size and draw-call budget, so it loads on a mid-range phone over mobile data.

  3. Configurator with live price

Fabric, finish, size and legs change the model and the price at once, from the same price list the showroom uses.

  4. AR on the phone

The same model opens in the customer's room through the phone's own AR viewer, with no app to install.

  5. Quote from the configuration

One tap sends the exact configuration to the quote system, and a rep calls back with the same options on screen.

Scope

What we built.

  • Forty optimised 3D models with twelve finishes each
  • Browser configurator with live pricing
  • AR view through the phone's native viewer
  • Quote integration carrying the exact configuration
  • Performance budget checks in the build pipeline

Lessons

What we learned.

  • Model the products that carry the quotes, not the whole catalogue.
  • A size budget per model is what makes 3D work on phones.
  • Live price is the feature. A configurator without it is a toy.
