Summary

vernesystems.com uses strictly necessary cookies for site operation and security, and optional analytics cookies from PostHog only if you accept them. If you decline, we count your visit without analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or fingerprinting. We do not sell visitor data.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website. They allow the site to remember information between requests. Browsers also support analogous technologies, local storage, session storage, and similar, that we group under “cookies” for the purpose of this notice.

What We Use

The Site sets the following categories of cookies and storage:

• Strictly necessary, security & routing. Our infrastructure provider may set short-lived cookies to mitigate abuse, route traffic, and preserve session continuity for interactions such as form submission. These are required for the Site to function and cannot be disabled without breaking parts of the experience.
• Strictly necessary, preference. Where you change a stateful preference on the Site (for example, a future theme toggle), we may persist that preference in local storage on your device. We do not transmit it back to us; it stays in your browser.

Optional Analytics

We use PostHog (PostHog, Inc., United States) to understand which pages and articles are useful. On your first visit a banner asks for your choice. Until you choose, PostHog stores nothing on your device and records no page activity. Loading the page makes one configuration request to PostHog so the banner and your choice work; it records no analytics events. We never identify visitors to PostHog by name or email, so no named profile is created from your visit.

• If you accept, PostHog stores an identifier in a first-party cookie and local storage (names beginning ph_) so it can recognise repeat visits. It records pages viewed, time on page, scroll depth, where you click (aggregated into heatmaps), clicks that get no response, JavaScript errors, referring site and campaign tags, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser, page-load performance (Core Web Vitals and network timing), and session recordings with the contents of form fields masked.
• If you decline, PostHog stores only your choice (see below) and no session is recorded. PostHog still records the pages you view, page-load performance, and certain interactions, such as completing our contact form, under a privacy-preserving hash calculated on its servers. The hash changes daily, so PostHog cannot link your visit to a later day's visit.

Whichever you choose, one first-party cookie (name beginning __ph_opt_in_out_) remembers the choice across vernesystems.com and blog.vernesystems.com so we do not ask again. It holds no identifier. PostHog keeps analytics events for up to 12 months and session recordings for up to 30 days. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the site footer.

What We Don't Use

The Site does not set or share:

• Third-party advertising cookies.
• Marketing or behavioral retargeting trackers.
• Cross-site identifiers or browser fingerprinting.
• Analytics shared with advertising networks or used to build cross-site profiles.

If we introduce any other optional cookies, we will request your consent before they are set and update this notice with the specific providers and purposes.

How to Control Cookies

You can clear and block cookies through your browser settings, see your browser's documentation. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may cause parts of the Site to stop working (for example, our contact form may not be able to submit). Use Cookie settings in the footer to accept or decline analytics. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal, the Site does not load PostHog at all, not even the cookieless visit count.

Changes

We may update this notice as the Site or applicable law evolves. The current version is always posted at this URL with the “Effective from” date above.
