A writing desk
with a memory.

A local-first writing app that remembers the facts of your story and marks contradictions in red. It never writes a word for you.

Pre-alpha

Version 0.1.0 runs from source on a developer machine. There is no installer, and no AI model runs today.

Exists today

  • A desk with a binder, an editor, comments, manual track changes and named snapshots.
  • Canon facts you confirm yourself, a cast list, and a timeline with story time and reading order.
  • Three deterministic continuity checks: an attribute clash such as hair colour, acting after a settled death, and story time running backwards against reading order.
  • No AI model runs. The checks are plain rules.

Planned, not built

  • A signed installer, so it does not have to run from source.
  • Fact proposals from prose, and flashback-aware time checks.
  • Later: AI proposals, more export formats and collaboration. None of it is built.
  • Proprietary. Not open source.
  • Source is private
  • Not released
What it is for

Let AI be your editor, not your writer.

Creative writers who are curious about AI but protective of their voice: novelists, worldbuilders, screenwriters, fan-fiction writers, and game and campaign writers.

01

Chapter 3 says auburn hair. Chapter 19 says black.

Keeps a record of confirmed facts and marks the sentence that contradicts one.

02

A character acts after the scene where they died.

Flags the sentence against the settled death. A note that says flashback clears it.

03

Story order and reading order drift apart.

Tracks two clocks, story time and reading order, and flags time running backwards.

04

Worldbuilding notes scatter across files.

Holds cards on a wall that move from spark to sketched to settled. Settling one can become a fact.

05

You want help, not a ghostwriter.

No generate, continue, rewrite or autocomplete. It never touches your prose.

See the idea

Confirm a fact. Write against it. See the red.

This follows real behaviour of the attribute-clash check, which has a unit test. The window is a drawing of it, not the real desk.

Problems0

Nothing flagged.

Step 1 / 6 An empty project. Asten starts with no facts, and nothing becomes canon on its own.

The check shown is CANON-E013. The real desk lists problems in a panel at the bottom and does not mark the text inline. This drawing is a simulation of that behaviour.
How it works

5 steps, in plain words.

Steps describe the design. Where a step is not built yet, the status section above says so.

  1. 01

    Write

Draft in the editor. The manuscript stays on your computer.

  2. 02

    Confirm a fact

Say who or what has which trait. Nothing becomes canon on its own.

  3. 03

    Asten checks

Rules compare each sentence with your confirmed facts.

  4. 04

    Read the mark

A problem lists the rule, the sentence and the fact behind it.

  5. 05

    You decide

Fix the prose, fix the fact, or silence the rule.

Principles

What we hold it to.

  • The pen stays yours.
  • Every mark shows its evidence: the rule, the sentence and the fact.
  • The house is yours: local-first, no account, no sync, no telemetry, no training on your work.
  • Quiet craft. Style hints are off by default and any rule can be silenced.
  • Honest about the work. It does not judge prose quality or find every plot hole.
